Professional Background
Union Pacific Health Systems: Leadership & Impact
Three decades at Union Pacific Health Systems taught me how to steer large organizations through growth, transformation and economic uncertainty.
- Financial Stewardship: As Chief Financial Officer for 20 years, I balanced multi-million-dollar budgets, implemented cost-savings initiatives that reduced overhead, and secured funding for new medical treatments and critical technology upgrades.
- Strategic Growth: Promoted to Chief Executive Officer for the final 13 years, I led a team of 100+employees, launched three new service lines (Mail Order Pharmacy, National C-PAP Program UP workers and technology sales) and increased annual revenue year over year all while maintaining patient-first values. I also oversaw the successful acquisitions of six other railroad medical groups.
- Crisis Management: Navigated economic downturns and regulatory shifts - such as OBAMA CARE - with agility, preserving jobs, protecting local community health services and building just under 100 million dollars in reserves for unexpected challenges.
- Team Building & Culture: Developed leadership pipelines by mentoring emerging managers, fostering cross-department collaboration and championing a companywide culture of fairness, transparency, diversity and inclusion.
My professional journey has helped me develop a set of complementary competencies directly relevant to mayoral leadership:
- Financial planning and & oversight
- Strategic vision and policy development
- Complex problem solving and critical thinking
- Collaborative stakeholder engagement
- Transparent communication and public speaking
- Negotiation and conflict resolution
- Performance management and accountability
